It is an informal process. The requirement is for up to six sessions of a minimum of 2 working hours each which are on a very relaxed basis allowing the subject to be involved in some other activity so long as occasional requests for attention can be made. No commitment is involved other than costs until work on the original is complete. At that stage a quote is provided which includes the casting costs enabling the person commissioning the work to see exactly what they are going to get and exactly how much it is going to cost.
John Doubleday’s standard portrait fee is £3,000 plus casting costs (for a life sized portrait head this is likely to be about £1,500) making a likely total of around £4,500 +VAT. He is happy to discuss other commissions on a case by case basis.
